Reviews Samsung Omnia 2

Disappointed by Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone enthusiasts Microsoft waited to turn with the arrival of Windows Mobile 6.5. Before HTC or Acer, Samsung has developed a nice phone. With her black dress and a beautiful lacquered finish, the Samsung Omnia 2 draws the eye. The huge screen (almost 9.5 cm) display provides a charming (in 480×800 pixels) photos and videos with the AMOLED technology.

The sad, old-interface of Windows Mobile has been transformed by the overlay software Touchwizz 2.0 Samsung. It allows to run a virtual cube to run multimedia applications. The color black dominates but brings a certain elegance in the pages. Large icons are shortcuts to launch applications or functions: the pen is finally unnecessary!

However, this rosy picture is tempered by the slow processor, flying at 800 MHz. It is sometimes seen some delays in launching software or automatic switching of the display captured by the accelerometer.
Especially because the screen is resistive, for lack of a Windows Mobile still can not manage as capacitive plates has the iPhone or the HTC Hero. If the HTC HD2, also powered by Windows Mobile 6.5, has a capacitive screen, it is due solely to HTC which has implemented the management of capacitive plates on Windows Mobile 6.5.
Besides the new batch of applications on the Windows Mobile 6.5 software (Market Place, My Phone …), the Samsung Omnia 2 has no real originality software. However, it incorporates a radio tuner RM RDS, TV output and compatibility with the DLNA device (to play your music or videos on a compatible TV, for example). Moreover, multimedia is honored on this phone because it has a 5 megapixel sensor satisfisant.
Above all, it is one of the few smartphones to support native playback of movies encoded in Divx. Samsung compensates for the narrowness of its internal memory (limited to 2 GB) by adding a MicroSD memory card 8 GB Ideal for storing their music and movies.
If web browsing is not yet at the iPhone, with Internet Explorer 6 and above Opera 9.5, progress is obvious with such management in native Flash content. If video playback is still choppy, this possibility has the merit to exist! With its HSDPA or WiFi module, the download page is still fast anyway.
In addition, Windows Live finally supports push email. This Phone is Windows praised for its autonomy memory geek had never seen a Windows smartphone take four days without an electrical outlet.
Plus : Grand magnificent screen, nice interface, autonomy finally correct, native Divx playback, video output, DLNA compatibility, enhanced sensor.
Less: Some delays episodic resistive screen.
